In the book persepolis Marjane had to wear a veil because of the islamic revolution that was taking place and possibly because of their religion. Many of Marjane's friends didn't want to wear the veil because they didn't like it and didn't understand why they had to wear it. In the beginning of the book it talks about Marjane's mother that demonstrated against the veil. A German journalist took a photo of her and published it. Marjane's goal is to become a prophet, but not many support her. She wants to do this because she wants to change the world. In the book she says, " I wanted to be a prophet...because our maid did not eat with us. Because my father had a cadillac. And above all, because my grandmother's knees always ached." Marajane was born with religion and loves god. She believes she can become a prophet even if her teacher and her classmates think she's crazy.
